God's Word and Art

As a person who finds great inspiration and comfort in nature, I have always been drawn to trees, mountains, rivers, lakes, just about anything that shows off the Creator’s handiwork. In 2016 I came across a TED talk about trees “How trees talk to each other” by Suzanne Simard. (I am including a link to the video below)

This video stirred my imagination and reminded me of the verse in Psalm 96:11-12 “Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; Let the sea roar, and all its fullness; Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it. Then all the trees of the woods will rejoice.” I had read the verse many times, but never considered the idea that trees—created by God—might actually be able to communicate.

Later, I read an article in Answers Magazine focusing on the same idea of how trees communicate. (I am including a link to the article below) Both of these experiences ignited my imagination and I began to think of trees differently.

As I pondered the wonder of trees and the truth that was—at least to my mind—hidden in God’s word, I was reminded of the exhortation in Proverbs 4:20-22 “My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh.” These experiences were the inspiration which led to my first foray in creating art prints, which reflected the beauty of God’s creation and the power of His word.

The original paintings hang in my dining room and I see them everyday, reminding me that God created beauty for His children and that His creation is intricate and meant to bring us joy. They also confirm in my heart that God’s word is a wonderful treasure of exciting and inspirational nuggets available for our benefit.
